The past is history...
The Göteborg Swapmeet started during the spring of 1983
in Folkets Hus by Gunnar Söderblom. With a large number of both exhibitors and visitors,
the event turned out to be an immediate success. The swapmeet
then was focused entirely on toy and model cars.
As interest prevailed and grew, we started in 1989 to schedule
two annual events (spring and autumn). By 1994, the limit of
Folkets Hus capacity was reached and so we moved to Arken Conference
Center on the northwestern periphery in the spring of 1995. Here
we had considerably more space and the swapmeet grew congruently.
The range of exhibits expanded during the years to include not
only model cars but also trains, boats, dolls and a whole lot
of other collectibles arrousing nostalgia. And that gave us one
reason to change the name of the event to Göteborgs Nostalgimässa
but we continue to call it Göteborg Swapmeet in english.
After Gunnar Söderblom’s death the Fair was taken over in spring 2006 by Peter Pluntky.
...and now the future
As from the spring of 2000 we have moved the event to one of
Sweden´s most exciting exhibition venues, Eriksberg, on
the north shore of the harbour.
Eriksbergshallen (Eriksbergs Hall) is a magnificiently restored
former shipyard workshop with a floor area of 3000 m2 accommodating
approx. 670 tables shared by some 260 exhibitors. And Quality
Hotel 11 with 260 rooms, directly adjacent to the exhibition
hall, is renowned for its high standard.
Public transport facilities to the area are excellent. Buses
stop directly in front of the hall and so does "Älv-Snabben",
the ferryboat crossing the harbour inlet. "Ringlinien´s"
special oldtimer tram/bus and perhaps even another private organisation`s
oldtimer train will run shuttle traffic from Centralen (the central
railway station) to the fair. There is also ample parking space
within walking distance. |
